social studies
We have started our social unit on the five themes of geography. Students labeled a map of the continents, oceans and five major rivers of the world. There was a test today over the map. If students didn't pass, they will have one more opportunity to take the test next week.

Writing WorkshopStudents have been working on narrative writing pieces. They should have at least three completed at this point. The past few days we have been working with a mentor text to see what professional writers do that we can emulate. Students will have home work tonight to complete a new narrative writing using at least two of the strategies we have been talking about.
Reading workshop
Each day I will do a mini-lesson on a reading topic, students will have silent reading time, and they will respond to a journal topic. I will also read aloud to them each day. On Fridays I will do book talks or show book trailers to increase their awareness of what is out there for them to read.
On Tuesday, October 10, there will be a test over book genres. Students will need to memorize the study guide they were given and know the definitions of the genres. Please encourage your child to read at home 20-30 minutes/day! I won't be keeping track of outside reading minutes, but we all know reading outside school is a great practice. |
